Did you think I was going to write an entirely different profile for CSNY and CSN? Yeah, that’s a little much. Check out my Backstory with CSNY.

A Deep Dive Into the Current Score

It is very interesting how Crosby, Stills & Nash compare to Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young. CSNY scored higher – but both “groups” had the same amount of 5-Star songs. It all really comes down to the number of total songs. CSNY had fewer songs and fewer 3-star (okay) songs. CSNY actually had a few 2-star songs, but neither had any dreaded 1-star songs.

Crosby, Stills & Nash actually hold my personal favorite song. The quality didn’t hold up into the ’80s/’90s and that’s what kills the score. It will be fun to check on Neil Young’s solo work and see if he was in the group, how they would have faired combined.

The Battle of CSN Albums

Deja Vu Scored a 400% and tops out all “CSN(Y) albums. Crosby, Stills & Nash scored well but adding Young helped keep the 1970 album over CSN’s 1969 album.

The Greatest Hit from CSN

We had a few more albums to choose from but still only had three songs. This was not a hard decision (not as hard as CSNY).

Previous Greatest Hit and Tournament Outcome

“Suite: Judy Blue Eyes”

This is a pure classic and the song I think of when someone would mention CSN or CSNY. It’s similar to “Carry On” – my favorite CSNY song. “Weird Al” actually made a classic style parody (“Mission Statement”) that pairs up the two songs – brilliantly.

Overview

Everything I said about CSNY holds true to CSN. Truthfully, I think it was a matter of luck that CSNY beat out CSN. I am not a huge Neil Young fan and his songs are ‘good’ but never my favorite on the album. Maybe he helped turn some of the ‘okay’ songs into ‘good songs’ – and that would make the difference.

The entire process of acquiring and listening to the discography of CSN/CSNY was a bit of a process. There is a possibility in the future I will go back through and audit my rankings. This may make the slightest of changes.
